Abstract

• Reviews the book, Encyclopedia of Multicultural Psychology edited by Yo Jackson (see record 2006-11497-000). This book represents a compilation of accumulated knowledge in psychology that is germane to multiculturalism in its many forms. The volume is characterized by a focus on culture as a foundation of difference, not race, which has sometimes been inappropriately used as an index of dissimilarity from which oppressive practices and beliefs develop. This encyclopedia is a meaningful contribution to the field of multicultural psychology. Jackson and her colleagues offer an authoritative synthesis of the important work that has been done to advance sensitivity and understanding of the rich cultural diversity that characterizes the United States.
